The Gobles volleyball team played Hartford in the District Final last week, and took control early to run away with a 25-14, 25-15 and 25-20 District title win.
“I told the team that Districts is not about the record for the season; that they needed to remember not to walk off the floor having regrets,” said Coach Renee Rambadt. “They played as a unit, which has been a goal of ours during the season.  During Districts they played as a unit and won the title.”
For Gobles, Karlee Henderson had eight kills and two aces; Libbee Nason, four kills; Christiana Hunt, six kills and three aces; and Madi Brady, four kills and five blocks.  Emily Baxter contributed 13 assists and five aces.
The Tigers opened District play in Watervliet against Bangor.  It took five hard-fought games to claim the victory. Gobles won 25-22, 19-25, 25-20, 17-25 and 15-10.  In the last set, Gobles trailed 2-7 before the momentum changed and the Tigers took the match to advance to the finals
“We knew that Bangor has always been a tough team to play against,” said Coach Rambadt. “The team has been well-known for its defensive game, and being able to keep the ball in play. It was a competitive game from the first game to the fifth! This is what makes coaching volleyball fun.”
“We talked about cutting down on unforced errors and not allowing Bangor to capitalize on our mistakes,” Rambadt added.  “The girls did a great job with fighting back; this time, they even took it a step further and pushed through to make the win.”
Gobles had a strong night at the net with Henderson’s 11 kills and four blocks, Nason’s nine kills and Hunt’s six kills. Baxter added 22 assists, three aces and six digs.
Gobles played the first round of Regionals on Tuesday night at Schoolcraft High School against Niles Brandywine, and lost in three games, 16-25, 16-25 and 9-25.
“We had a good season,” commented Rambadt. “I’m proud of how the girls came together to win a District title.  We will miss our seniors, Libbee and Christiana!”
