The Gobles girls basketball team started District play this week against a tough Schoolcraft team. The Tigers brought a perfect 20-0 regular season record to the court  to match up with the Eagles’ 18-3. Yet, the first half was a nightmare for Gobles, as they struggled to score, and were beaten down the court for easy layups.
Gobles trailed 15-9 at halftime; but early in the third quarter, with her team still trailing 19-9, freshman Amanda Barber gave the Tigers the spark they needed.  Barber made a three pointer to start the Tigers’ second half scoring; and wasn’t done, as she hit consecutive shots beyond the arc to cut the Tigers’ deficit to 23-18. In fact, Barber made four second half three pointers to fuel the 32-2 run for the Tigers.
As hot as the Tigers were, the Eagles went cold, and Gobles outscored them, 19-2, in the fourth quarter. The Tigers won, 45-27, and advanced to play Wednesday night against the Bloomingdale Cardinals.
“We played a great second half and Amanda Barber lit the fuse to get that going,” said Gobles John Curtis. “It was great seeing this group of girls getting that first District win.”
Barber was the leading scorer for Gobles with 19 points. Maddy Tiller had eight points, and Emily Lopez added seven.
