After ending their last three basketball games within nine points, the Lawrence Tigers were due for a big win. They did not disappoint their large winter Homecoming crowd Friday night, hosting the Covert Bulldogs and winning, 56-13. The Tigers ran out to a quick 13-point lead, scoring from all over the court. Lewis Williams struck for six of the team’s 13 points. Shooting 83 percent from the free throw line, too, Lawrence ended the first quarter up, 13-3.
Junior Zach Payment kicked off scoring in the second quarter with a layup and the Tigers continued their romp, taking advantage of Covert turnovers and stretching their lead to 20-6 with three minutes left in the half. Williams capped off their run when he sank a long three point shot from the corner. Lawrence led, 24-8, at half time.
Lawrence allowed the Bulldogs only five points in the second half, while adding 32 points to their own total.
With the win, the Tigers stand at 6-8 on the season. Their next home game is tonight, Feb. 7, with Howardsville Christian. Lawrence lost the first meeting with the Eagles, 51-44, earlier this season.
