Letter to the Editor,
The Van Buren County school superintendents, serving over 15,500 K-12 students representing 12 school systems, would like to THANK all of our students, parents/guar-dians, teachers, support staff, administrators, businesses and community members for working together in how instruction has been delivered since March 16, 2020.
As we continue to monitor the pandemic path and re-ceive guidance from the local health department, CDC and the Governor’s office, we want to assure you that the safety and health of staff, students and families are a top priority.
For the past two weeks, a group of more than 200 educators, community members and others have been meeting to provide guidance and di-rection on how we safely open schools this fall. As you can imagine, until a vaccination is found for the COVID-19 virus we have to prepare for many different scenarios. The possibilities being discussed are:
    - In-person, face-to-face instruction with proper precautions and safety measures
-Remote/distance learning using technology and other means
    - A combination of in-person, face-to-face instruction and remote/distance learning.
To the extent that re-mote/distance learning continues to be part of the in-structional delivery model, we anticipate a more robust program with student participation, engagement, and assessment expectations more closely resembling that of traditional, in-person school.
As we continue to map out the future delivery of education for all of our students, please continue to monitor your school district’s website for updates. Plans will be nimble in order to adapt to changing circumstances.
We truly THANK YOU for entrusting us in the education of your students. As we plan for the reopening of schools this fall, please be assured that we will do our best to provide an educational experience that is needed in helping students succeed in life. We can overcome any challenge by all working together.
May all of you stay safe and healthy,

Dear Readers,
Red Arrow Soccer Club (RASC), as have other youth sports in the local area, had its season cancelled in April due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In response, the RASC Board of Directors made the decision to refund 100 percent of all spring fees back to their soccer families, while giving them the option of donating all or a portion of their fees to the club’s scholarship fund.
The scholarship fund provides financial assistance to soccer families, with the goal to now fully fund scholarships toward player fees and uniforms needed to those families in need. As with others, many of our families have had their lives turned upside down due to the pandemic. RASC is dedicated to not allowing money to be a barrier for players having the opportunity to play the sport they love and are committed to matching 100 percent of every family’s donation. RASC is grateful for the response from families and look forward to resuming play in the upcoming season. For more information on Red Arrow Soccer Club, visit
