Readers’voice

Dear Community,
Eleanor’s Pantry is so fortunate to have support from many of our local businesses and friends.
Paw Paw Family Fare-Spartan Nash, in particular, continually makes a difference in the lives of our food insecure families through their generous gifts and contributions throughout the year.
Glenn Jankowski, Paw Paw Family Fare’s caring manager, continually looks for ways his store can help the families in need in our community. Weekly, we receive bakery goods, and often we receive recent out-of-date products. Yearly, Family Fare promotes us by participating in the United Way’s “Stuff the Bus” and the RedArrow Ministries highly successful food drives. Glenn donated gift cards for door prizes for the “Love Our Community” event, as well.
Spartan Nash Corpora-tion supports us in numerous ways in our local Family Fare.  Each fall, they sponsor a “Retail Campaign,” where customers can give a donation to the pantry through the check-out process.  The “Double Your Dollars” program assists in providing produce at a great price. “Direct Your Dollars,” where receipts are collected from customers to earn a cash donation from Spartan Nash, has been incredibly beneficial to us and continues to be as reaching a specific total earns us $1,000!  We thank Glenn and his staff at Family Fare and the Spartan Nash Corporation for their kind generosity.
Others have helped us lately, too.  Linda Marcon, owner/operator of Paw Paw Biggby, recently donated a beautiful huge commercial freezer to the pantry.  Knights of Columbus had an enormously successful food drive (over 1,000 pounds) for us and monetary contributions as well.  Thank you to the mail carriers and people who donated to this year’s “Stamp Out Hunger.”  A new record total of pounds of food was set:  8,637.5 pounds !! WOW!
Remember, you are the reason we can continue to help feed our food insecure neighbors a once a month, three day emergency supply of food.  We extend our heartfelt thank you to each of you.

Dear Community,
The Lions Club of Paw Paw is celebrating its 50th year of service to our community. In that time, the club has faithfully supported charities and worthy events in the greater Paw Paw area. Lions are also known as “Knights for the Blind” and give generously to Michigan Eye Bank, Leader Dog of Michigan, Paws for a Cause, and the White Cane program, which provides dollars for local support of those in need of vision related assistance.
The Lions Club building on our community is used free of charge by our local Boy Scout Troop 169. The building is also available  for community events such as the Red Cross blood drives, Southwest Michigan Artists’ Association Auction, and the annual Spoonfuls and Spirits event hosted by the Paw Paw Area Chamber of Commerce. We view our club building as a gift to the community and are happy to make it available when needed.
The building is in need of some upgrading at this time. Paw Paw Lions are embarking on a project to replace ceiling tiles, rewire the building to convert to LED lights, and add insulation to help become more energy efficient. A portion of the proceeds from our June 8 golf outing, to be held at Lake Cora Hills Golf Course, are earmarked for this project, while the balance will go to Lions-supported charities.
You can help us in one of several ways! Sponsor a tee with a business or personal sign for $50. We will have the sign made for you. Be an event sponsor for $500. Event sponsors may enter a team free of charge and have their name listed on our welcome banner. Sponsor a team at $65 per player (team entry fee of $260) or put a team together to compete in this fun event.
For more information, you can contact Lion Jack Wyatt at (269) 930-1918 or Lion Tom Shoemaker at (269) 808-3240.
Checks for sponsorship may be made out to the Paw Paw Lions Club and sent to PO Box 92, Paw Paw, MI 49079. If you wish to be a tee sponsor, please include a contact number on your check so that we can get the proper wording on your tee sign.
We appreciate your consideration in giving support to our organization, and hope you can join us on the 8th of June!
    Sincerely,
    Tom Shoemaker and Jack Wyatt
