Van Buren District Library closing

All Van Buren District Library locations are closed beginning Monday, March 16, until further notice to help stop the spread of the Coronavirus/COVID-19. This includes VBDL headquarters at Webster Memorial Library in Decatur and branches in Bangor, Bloomingdale, Covert, Gobles, Lawrence and Mattawan.

The closure is in response to Governor Whitmer’s decision to close Michigan’s public schools and the Michigan Library Association’s recent recommendation to close all public libraries. VBDL’s Board of Trustees and Administration believe a temporary closing of all branches is in the best interest of community health.

While VBDL is closed, staff will be able to conduct a thorough cleaning of each location and materials, as needed. Patrons who have materials checked out need not worry about late fees, as the District discontinued assessing fees at the end of 2019. Most materials can be renewed online at

VBDL does offer a number of online services through which patrons can download books, audiobooks, movies and music from Hoopla, and eBooks and audiobooks from Overdrive. Students needing to complete homework assignments can find online assistance through the Princeton Review’s Online Tutoring Center and the MeL Databases. These resources and more are accessible through the District’s eLibrary at

The District will keep the public updated through its social media sites, website and local newspapers. The VBDL staff thanks all the communities they serve for their understanding and patience.
