Workshop helps with work place medical disclosures

PAW PAW – Disability Network Southwest Michigan is conducting free “Disability & Employment” workshops throughout Southwest Michigan during the month of October.
One of these workshops will be held on Friday, October 6, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. at Michigan WORKS!, located at 32849 Red Arrow Highway, Paw Paw.
The workshops are designed to teach people with disabilities how, when, and why to talk about their disability or medical condition with an employer. The workshop covers what their rights are under the Americans with Disabilities Act, how to request an accommodation at work, and additional disability resources in the community.
“Many people with disabilities or medical conditions agonize over how and when to talk about their disability when they are looking for work. This workshop will give people practical tools and strategies to make that decision,” says Lewis Whalen, Program Director with Disability Network.
To register for the Paw Paw  workshop, contact Miranda at grunwellm@dnswm.org or (269) 345-1516 x120. “Let us know when registering if you require an accommodation to participate.,” added Whalen.
This workshop is also being held in Kalamazoo, Hastings, Battle Creek, Dowagiac and St. Joseph. For more information about the workshop schedule, go to www.dnswm.org.
Michigan WORKS! is a fragrance-free environment. Please do not wear perfume, cologne or other scented products to these events.
