Paw Paw’s Michigan Ave. sidewalk redesign concepts reviewed

Engineer’s rendering of one of two proposed sidewalk design concept for Paw Paw’s E. Michigan Avenue, featuring “bump outs”.

PAW PAW - The Paw Paw Village Council reviewed new concepts for a Michigan Avenue downtown sidewalk redesign presented by Chris Cook and Kathy Burczak, from the Abonmarche engineering firm at its May 28 meeting. The two had offered several options to the council and a large audience at a meeting in March and had returned with two redesign ideas for consideration.  Both concepts maintain five lanes of traffic through town, and will address leveling the grade of the road to have equal curbing on the north and south sides of Michigan Avenue. One concept includes “bump outs” into the parking lane for outdoor seating or other use by downtown businesses.
The sidewalk renewal is to be part of an upcoming Michigan Avenue repaving project already scheduled.
The council will hold public hearings during its Monday, June 10 meeting concerning proposed 2019 millage rates and Police Special Assessment Millage. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the community room at the Paw Paw District Library, 609 W. Michigan Avenue.
