Br. Cabras to be ordained April 27

Brother Fred Cabras, OFM Cap., will be ordained a Roman Catholic deacon during a rite of ordination celebrated April 27, by Bishop Paul Schmitz, OFM Cap., at St. Clare of Monte-falco Parish, in Chicago.
Br. Fred, a native of Paw Paw, grew up attending St. Mary’s Parish here, and is a graduate of Hackett Catho-lic Central High School in Kalamazoo. He went on to the University of Illinois-Chicago, where he discerned the call to become a member of the clergy while attending the FOCUS Con-ference for young adults as an undergraduate.
“I got this sense that there’s something more that I’m searching for,” said Br. Fred. “I realized that community and social services were at the hallmark of my spiritual life. Being with and journeying with people on the margins and living in community is where I found spiritual richness.” This led Br. Fred to the Capuchin Franciscans.
Br. Fred is also working to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). Following his ordination, he will complete his clinical work at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
