Letter to the Editor:
My mom subscribed to The Courier-Leader for me, keeping me in touch with home since I live in Pennsylvania. I was excited to read about the baseball exhibit and thought I would share a couple stories of how Paw Paw baseball “pops up.”
I had the pleasure to watch Derrick Mitchell play baseball when he played in Allentown and felt he brought a little bit of Paw Paw home to me. He was great and the main reason I went to the games! I called out Paw Paw to him!
Visiting Nashville, we started a conversation with a guy wearing Detroit Tigers paraphernalia. He was from San Diego but had lived in the Detroit area and had not only heard of Charlie Maxwell, but knew him and his family and been to his home! We talked for awhile about ‘Ol’ Paw Paw.’
I hope I get to visit the exhibit this summer.

Dear Readers,
The Van Buren Voyagers 4-H Club’s Envirothon Teams are excited to announce a beach clean at the Casco Township Nature Preserve on the shores of Lake Michigan in South Haven on May 28, 2019 at 4 p.m.
The Great Lakes Water Alliance estimates that 22 million pounds of plastic pollution end up in the Great Lakes every year. Currently, the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary hosts the only National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) ‘fresh water’ marine debris assessment. They collect and study the amount and types of marine debris that wash up on the shore at the Casco Township Nature Preserve beach.
In addition to making the beach clean for visitors, cleaning the full beach this year will allow the Coast Guard Auxiliary to start fresh marine debris statistics at this location.
Volunteers of all ages are invited to clean the Casco Beach on May 28; leaders will be onsite to sign community service forms.
To register for the Casco Beach clean, please go to the Great Lakes Water Alliance volunteer page at https://greatlakes.org/.
CHALLENGE: If you can’t make the Casco Township Beach clean on May 28, the Van Buren Voyagers 4-H Club challenge you to find and clean a fresh water beach in your area.
