LAWTON - The youngest students at Lawton Community Schools took the stage of the Owen Bray Auditorium last Wednesday to perform “under the Big Top” in their annual Kindergarten Circus.
The show’s tradition goes back 57 years, when former teacher Peggy Nicholas directed the “Tiny Tots Circus” in her classroom at Bloomingdale Elementary School. She taught there two years, then the circus came to town in Lawton and stayed there.
The children still perform many acts from Nicholas’ original circus, and much of the scenery has been stored year after year, and brought back out to stand behind the newest lot of lion tamers, hula-hoopists, tumblers, and clowns -- much to the delight of their parents watching what to them is “the greatest show on Earth.”
