County’s 2019 Educational Heroes honored

The presentation was made during the Educational Hero Awards Banquet, held Tuesday night at the VBISD Conference Center, Lawrence.

        LAWRENCE - A total of 26 area  educators and other individuals were honored  Tuesday night at the Van Buren Intermediate School District Conference Center during the Educational Hero Awards Banquet.
    Recipients include:
    Bangor - Dawn Everett and Barb Hankins-Connick.
    Bloomingdale - Bloomingdale - Amy Harris  and Carrie Levering.
    Covert - Pamela Baker  and Amy Moffatt.
    Decatur - Kimberly Cugnetti and Robert Dick.
    Gobles - Kevin Ketchum and Maggie Platt.
    Hartford - Kenny Kent and Amanda Lamieux.
    Lawrence - Jim Camp and Jennifer Curtis.
    Lawton - Danielle Carr and Kimberly Emmert.
    Mattawan - Rebekah Hoffman, Barbara Cooper and Elise Ripmaster.
    Paw Paw - Heidi Birkenbach and Joy Hartman.
    South Haven - Linda Brzezinski and Sandy Kluskowski.
    Van Buren Intermediate School District - Van Buren County Sheriff’s Office Lt. Bob Kirk, Sgt. Wayne Polomcak and Jo Graham.
    Four high school seniors were also recognized as  each  received a $500 scholarship from the Van Buren County Association of School Boards.
They are Chloe Kinney, South Haven; Mariela Gutierrez-Quintana, Hartford; Ashley Morris, Decatur; and Kevin Chandler, Gobles.
    Michigan Association of School Boards  awards were presented to the following:
    Award of Distinction - Richard Vawter, Hartford Public Schools.
    Award of Merit - Christy Case, Bloomingdale Public Schools; Jamie Walle, Bloomingdale Public Schools; Kurt Kuehnle, Hartford Public Schools; Melanie Giddings, Lawrence Public Schools; Shari McGrath, Mattawan Consolidated School; John Weiss, Van Buren ISD.
    CBA Certification – Level One - Kurt Kuehnle, Hartford Public Schools; Melanie Giddings, Lawrence Public Schools; Douglas Townsend, Lawton Community Schools; Shari McGrath, Mattawan Consolidated School; and John Weiss, Van Buren ISD.
    Master Board Member Awards were given to Mike Banic of Hartford Public Schools, and Mary Ann Middaugh, Van Buren ISD board member.
    Paw Paw Public Schools’ Superintendent  Sonia Lark, who will be retiring next month, was presented with a plaque by VBISD  Superintendent Jeff Mills. It stated,  in part: “....You  have  made a positive difference  in the lives of so many  students. Wishing you all the best in retirement and a new chapter  in your life.”
