The Mattawan hockey teamed notched a 2-0 win Saturday night, hosting the Lakers of St. Clair Shores.
The first period ended scoreless, though both teams had power play opportunities during the period.
Just minutes into the second period Mattawan took a one-goal lead when Aiden McKeeby scored. McKeeby came close to scoring another goal in the period, but it was blocked by the Lakers’ goalie.
Right after the block, with two Lakers missing from the ice,  the Wildcats took advantage of the power play. Corey Kindle and Josef Petersen assisted Logan McClish, who found the back of St. Clair Shores’ net to end the second period. The sophomore’s goal would be the final of the game, as neither team scored in the final period.
The Wildcats will be home again on February 5 hosting Portage Northern at 5:30 p.m. All Mattawan home games are played at Wings West on 9th Street in Oshtemo.
